Serena Williams revealed that she wanted to see Taylor Swift during Super Bowl LIX, though ultimately avoided her for a specific reason.
While talking to Time in an interview published on Wednesday, April 16, Serena, 43, explained that she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, hoped to take their eldest daughter, Olympia, to meet Taylor, 35, in her suite at Caesar’s Superdome in Las Vegas. The “Enchanted” singer was at the game to support boyfriend Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, Serena said that she decided to not bother Taylor once the Philadelphia Eagles began to dominate the Chiefs during the game. The Eagles eventually won the game, which ruined the Chiefs’ chances of becoming the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
“I’m such a mom,” Serena told the outlet. “I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl.'”

However, Serena noted that “it’s hard when your team is losing” and seeing Taylor stressed out made her not want to ask for an autograph. “I totally get it,” she added of Taylor’s nerves.
In addition to revealing why she avoided Taylor at the game, Serena also reflected on fans booing the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer when she was featured on the jumbotron. “Why would you boo her? That’s so mean,” Serena asked. “That’s just awful.”
After Taylor was booed during the February 9 game, Serena took to X to show her support for the “It’s Nice to Have a Friend” singer. “I love you @taylorswift 13 don’t listen to those booo!!” she wrote at the time.
While Travis, 35, and his teammates didn’t secure the victory, it seems that he and Taylor are enjoying their time together during the offseason. The pair is used to publicly supporting each other at their work events, though they have opted to keep things more low-key in recent months and have remained mostly out of the spotlight except for the occasional dinner date night.
“It’s been a dream period that’s only solidified that they’re on the same page about their future,” a source exclusively told Life & Style about their private time, adding that Taylor and Travis are currently planning their “next steps” together and are “amping up wedding discussions.”
The insider shared, “Taylor and Travis’ time out of the limelight has given them a taste of what life will be like when they’re married, not promoting anything, and not on anyone’s radar.”
In fact, staying out of the spotlight has even strengthened their relationship. “They already knew how compatible they were, but this break away from everything has allowed them to grow closer and be even more certain,” the source said.

“It’s just proven they’re a solid team and can weather anything together,” the insider continued, noting that they have remained by each other’s sides amid highs and lows in their careers and personal lives.
Meanwhile, the source said they can now focus on “the fun part” of “a wedding, a honeymoon and the start of the rest of their lives as a married couple.”
